AFTA’s therapeutic interventions focus especially on older adults experiencing aging-related physical and cognitive impairments, and can include trainings for practitioners in our structured improvisation methods.

Workshops are customized from a curriculum of healing movement, drawing, painting, music, art history, creative writing, storytelling, expressive arts, poetry, dance, musical theatre, collage/mixed media, theatrical improvisation, museum outings and intergenerational workshops.

An experienced artistic faculty is grounded in diverse specialties, trained in our nationally recognized best-practices, and competitively supported to facilitate group workshops in community and residential care settings in Greater Washington: Adult day centers, community centers, senior centers, affordable housing centers, assisted living communities, nursing homes, and with museums and cultural institutions.

800+ programs annually give 1,000 older adults weekly and bi-weekly access to the transformative power of arts engagement — spreading joy and combatting isolation.
